Description

Our Land Rover Series II with short wheelbase takes on a military role this time, as deployed by the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. It is decorated in its traditional dark green colour scheme and features a sand coloured canvas back with rear window. Registered 19 CL 49, the unit’s military markings are contoured round the front mudguards and across the rear door. The interior is moulded in the dark green of the body, with grey seating.

The Series II Land Rover was a significant evolution of the original Land Rover, which was introduced in 1948. The Series II Land Rover was produced from 1958 to 1961 and represented several improvements over its predecessor, the Series I.

The Series II featured a more refined body design with a curved windscreen, which was a departure from the flat, split windscreen of the Series I. This change improved aerodynamics and visibility. It was available with a range of engine options, including four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. These engines offered improved performance and fuel efficiency compared to the earlier models. It came in various body styles, including:

– Short-wheelbase (SWB) versions with two doors
– Long-wheelbase (LWB) versions with four doors
– Pickup trucks
– Station wagons
It was used extensively by military forces around the world due to its ruggedness and off-road capabilities. It was also popular among farmers, adventurers, and those who needed a versatile and reliable vehicle for various tasks. It was succeeded by the Series IIA, which was essentially an updated version of the Series II. The Series IIA continued to build on the success of its predecessor and remained in production until 1971.

This a 1:76 (00) scale model, comes on a plinth (can be removed), with a clear case and Oxford Military wrap.
